News Annual Report 2024 Action Oak's supported projects and researchers are hard at work; we can't wait to bring you an update in Action Oak's next annual report. The deadline for submission is the 1st of April 2024.   Researcher Spotlight  Action Oak is proud to support the #WomenInScience, who carry out the critical research needed to protect the UK's native oak trees.  One of the Action Oak-supported researchers, Louise Gathercole, is completing her PhD with RBG Kew and Queen Mary University London. At the end of 2021, she published a paper looking at the genetic evidence for Acute Oak Decline bacteria on the leaves of Oak trees and is now working on the genomics of environmental adaptation in British oaks, and future climate risks. Louise is a career changer who moved into scientific research after taking a career break to raise a family. She is now working as the Coordinator for the Centre for Forest Protection (CFP), a collaboration between RBG Kew and Forest Research. The mission of CFP is closely aligned with Action Oak's and is focused on the future health and resilience of the UK's woodlands. In June 2024, Louise will present her Oak PhD research at the IUFRO World Congress. #InternationalDayOfWomenAndGirlsInScience Events We're finalising our 2024 events programme; if you have an event that would benefit from an Action Oak presence, please get in contact with:  actionoak@woodlandheritage.org  Action Oak Partners' Event 2024 We're so excited to invite you to Action Oak's Annual Partner Event at Cathays Park in Cardiff on Thursday the 9th of May, 2024. The event is being held in the Welsh Government buildings so RSVP-ing is essential as only guests on the list will be permitted entry due to the venue’s security procedures. RSVP NOW May 2024 Plant Health Week 2024 This year's fourth annual National Plant Health Week runs from 6th-12th May 2024 coinciding with the International Plant Health Day on the 12th May 2024. We're looking forward to connecting with the community and hearing updates on the work of the Future Trees Trust.
